I really look forward to the weekend. My husband is home, and I really enjoy spending time with him. I enjoy getting out of the "normal" routine of life while he's home. Today I don't seem to feel that way. My husband is currently going to school, and he is very busy on the weekends, lately. It seems as if he is always trying to catch up, because there is so much to do. This has left me feeling extremely BORED and lonely today. I started thinking about the fact that we haven't been out on a date since at least March, and my mood hit the floor. I want to feel special. I want someone to look forward to spending time with me as much as I desire to be with them.
As I put my son down for a nap this afternoon, I knew that I should spend some quiet time with God. As I was sitting on the couch feeling sorry for myself, I realized that I was doing it again...I was trying to make my husband the source of my happiness. There's nothing wrong with wanting to spend time with my husband or to want him to spend time with me. The place where I went wrong was when my mood turned sour as I realized he was going to be so preoccupied again today.
As I mentioned earlier, I want someone to make me feel special. I want someone who wants to spend time with me as much as I want to spend time with him. That's when it hit me...God is the one who ALWAYS thinks I am special and ALWAYS wants to spend time with me. He is the only one who can be my true source of contentment. God is never too busy for me. God WANTS me to turn to Him for everything. Although I wasted a good part of my day silently sulking, I'm glad that God gave me this reminder.
"I will bless the Lord, Who has given me counsel; yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory (my inner self) rejoices; my body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety. For You will not abandon me to Sheol (the place of the dead), neither will You suffer Your hold on (Holy One) to see corruption. You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore".Psalm 16:7-11 (Amplified)

I, too have made this same mistake... it is easy to fall into the traps of wanting to put our hope in man yet there is only one true source of acceptance and love, in Christ we have all we need.
